VIOLENT CRIMES: MURDER
Generally, a person commits murder where the person
knowingly causes the death of an individual; if he intends to
cause serious bodily injury and commits an act clearly
dangerous to human life that causes the death of an individual;
OR if he commits or attempts to commit a felony, other than
manslaughter, and in the course of and in furtherance of the
commission or attempt, or in immediate flight from the
commission or attempt, he commits or attempts to commit an
act clearly dangerous to human life that causes the death of an
individual.
VIOLENT CRIMES: ASSAULT
Generally, a person commits the offense of assault if the
person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly causes bodily
injury to another. A person may also have committed an
assault if the person intentionally or knowingly threatens
another with imminent bodily injury.
The classification of the offense is also affected by the kind of
victim being assaulted including public servants, the elderly,
children, pregnant women, and family. For example, a
misdemeanor assault could be classified as a felony if the
person the actor assaulted is a public servant and the actor
knows the person is a public servant and the assault is done
while the person is lawfully discharging an official duty.
VIOLENT CRIMES: SEXUAL ASSAULT
Generally, a person commits the offense of Sexual Assault if
the person: intentionally or knowingly does one of the following:
(A) causes the penetration of the anus or sexual organ of
another person by any means, without that person's consent;
(B) causes the penetration of the mouth of another person by
the sexual organ of the actor, without that person's consent; or
(C) causes the sexual organ of another person, without that
person's consent, to contact or penetrate the mouth, anus, or
sexual organ of another person, including the actor.
VIOLENT CRIMES: AIDING SUICIDE
A person commits an offense if, with intent to promote or assist
the commission of suicide by another, he aids or attempts to aid
the other to commit or attempt to commit suicide.
VIOLENT CRIMES: TERRORISTIC THREAT
A person commits an offense if he threatens to commit any
offense involving violence to any person or property with intent
to cause a reaction of any type to his threat by an official or
volunteer agency organized to deal with emergencies; OR
place any person in fear of imminent serious bodily injury.
